I recently returned home to Australia from a 5 week trip to the USA. We stayed nearly a week in Yellowstone NP at the end of spring and I can relate to the vivid descriptions of many of the locations woven in between the campfire stories told by the characters in this book. It is a very old book and the writing style, and the quaint language used by the characters, is from another era. This can make your mind work a little hard to read it at times, particularly when the author uses a phonetic style to deliberately exaggerate the spoken accents of some characters. However it also adds colour to the mostly fascinating tales, albeit I thought one or two of them ended abruptly leaving me wondering whether I missed something. Partly a number of short stories, part travelogue, the scenic narrative alone left me longing for a return trip to Wyoming and Yellowstone.
